some of my fondest memories of childhood are saturday nights with my dad. we would watch the muppets and then star trek. to this day, i still love both.

i loooooooved miss piggy when i was kid. she spoke some french. i spoke some french. she loved pink. i loved pink. she thought she knew karate. i thought i knew karate. she was a one man kinda woman. i was a one man kinda woman. she was very physical when it came to the dudes, esp. the one she loved. if you know me, and kinda love me, you know just how physical i can be. i could go on and on...

A couple of weeks ago, while working, the election and voting came up in conversation. The people that I was talking with were a (soon to be) 19 year old dude, R, a guy in his late 30s, G, and an Englishman in his late 30s, D. D and I were in full agreement of everything under the sun and the other two were just kind of saying "uh huhs". When it came down to the question of voting, R said, "No, I don't think I'm going to vote. I'm not even registered..." as I began to protest, G told me not to bother R. "Why not?", I asked. G goes on to tell me that he's never voted and I should not give R a hard time! At this point, D is shaking his head in disbelief. Finally, D says, "I wish I could vote, man! I can't in this election, but I will be able to next time! You better believe, if I could, I would!"

I was just in shock. R seems like a relatively informed, interested and curious individual that would not miss the chance to have his voice heard. G, while he is a complete stoner, I would have that he would not pass up a chance to "stick it to the man!" I, usually being a person that can't shut up, was at a loss for words. I have always voted. I was registered once I turned 18, or shortly after. All of my friends and family vote. Not to mention, being a black woman, I would never give up my right that so many before me have struggled to get, no matter how you look at it. In that vein, I have a couple of videos for consumption. The first shows three generations on their way to voting. While that is poignant in its own right. I was particularly moved by the emotion of the grandmother in this clip. I think the gravity of it all really effected her and that is very touching to me. The second shows our nation's next president (crossing fingers! crossing fingers! crossing fingers!) voting with his family... Just seeing him and thinking about the possibility of him being our president gives me chills. He is an amazingly calm, eloquent and inspiring individual.

I should have stretched yesterday, it would have saved my groin. I just joined a kickball league. While I would like to think that I am still nimble and kind of in shape, nothing beats a good stretch and warm up. So today, while I am not a complete invalid, I am hurting and it's not getting any better very fast. I have learned my lesson and will be much wiser in the future.

I should do the dishes, it will get me motivated to clean a little more of the house. With Emilie gone, I live like a disgusting bachelor. The state of my house can be described as such: a sink overflowing with dishes, a bathroom littered with various components of last week's outfits, toothpaste spittle splattered on the faucet, a dining room table covered in unopened mail, dust bunnies having free reign of the floors... I think I'm gonna at least do an hour's worth of work. Then tomorrow, I will do more.

I think I'm gonna get my bills, mail and W2s orgnanized, so that I can make trips to the banks, post office and possibly accountants office tomorrow.

Whew. I am exhausted just thinking about all that nonsense. However, in the words of Bec, "Get 'er done!"

I was out of town for almost a week and I am currently trying to get back into the swing of things and it is proving hard. My sleeping schedule has somehow not quite adjusted and last night was beyond challenging. So, today while prepping for this week's job, I walked and drove around town, in a complete and total fog.

However, while cruising around the good ol' interweb and daydreaming (during my self-imposed nap/downtime at home), it dawned on me that I am very happy and stoked that I...

1. am not a carbon copy in a town filled with them and people that are willing to settle over and over again for said replicas.

2. did not get what I thought I wanted on a couple of fronts, because now I know that initial disappointment has actually led to current and future happiness.

3. LOVE my job for many reasons (people, places, experiences, good stories, inspiration & freedom), despite the early hours, possible morons that may not appreciate how hard I do work, and the occassional heavy lifting.

4. will soon be reunited with the WORLD'S BEST ROOMMATE!

5. have some of the most amazing people in my life that I am more than honored to call my friends (old & new, near & far).

6. have "unlimited any messages" plan on my phone, so that I can constantly keep in touch with aforementioned radical people.

7. live in a city that has such amazing weather... it was freaking 80 degrees today, people! I ate lunch on the patio with Alex, drove with my windows down (actually had the AC on during a hot half hour on the 405), immediately opened most of the windows in my house upon my arrival home to let in some air.

8. have a maid that I will be calling next week to get the place in tip-top shape so that it will be presentable for that awesome roommate I said would be returning shortly.

9. that I live in an area that lets me walk to virtually anything my little heart desires, despite living in a city overly saturated with cars and traffic.

10. will soon be able to take advantage of some of the best insurance ever!

*Sigh* Holiday season is approaching and fast! While there is nothing like being home with family in the midwest on a snowy christmas morning... nothing beats being in LA over the holidays!!! Major roads are pleasantly deserted. Shopping is a breeze. Bar service cannot be compared. People are downright chipper! Not to mention, I don't have to deal with the craaaaazy airport drama, the rushing to and fro trying to catch my connecting flight, the airport dilemma of "...do I really need another beer?" or "...dang, why do i have to go back through security if I want a tasty smoky treat?!"

*Sigh* My holiday will be enjoyed as follows. On Xmas eve, I will have year two with good girlfriends that are quite content to stay in the City of Angels. Once again we will be having a miniature "Feast of 1000 Fishes" and then quite possibly hit some watering holes. On Xmas day itself I will be a newborn and his radical family, the Weiss-Davis clan, whom I love dearly. The day after Xmas, Boxing Day as it is known in some parts, I will also be spending it with the aforementioned Weiss-Davis clan. Fun times to be had all around.

So, Happy Christma-Kwaanza-Kah... or whatever you do or don't call it... or however you choose to celebrate the dip into the chilly temperatures, I hope it's amazing!

Sunday, funday. What would I normally be doing? Lounging and brunching, of course. Not this Sunday. My friend and Largo comrade, Scott, had an excellent birthday party at Hollywood Park, in the Turf Club. So RAD! I felt like royalty. The seventh race of the day was even in honor of Scott. About 20 of us went down to help Scott celebrate. Good people, good times. I highly recommend getting a crew of friends and getting down there if I were you before the horses move down to Del Mar and then to Santa Anita.

I am over these things. I am absolutely sick of them. No self respecting human being has any business wearing these damn shoes! My ONLY exceptions are the following:

1. Doctors & Nurses
2. Chefs & Servers
3. Gardners
4. Children under the age of 10
5. Hobbits

People, take a long hard look at the list above. Numbers 1 through 3 are for obvious reasons. The are on their feet walking back and forth on very hard floors. They need a shoe that is comfortable, breathes well, will not slip and are easy to clean. That said, as soon as you leave work, TAKE THEM OFF! Numbers 4 & 5 are also obvious, I believe. Children are allowed to wear quirky, silly, rainbow shoes. As for the hobbits, they don't wear shoes, but if they did, I suppose these would be the most appropriate for their fat, wide, hairy feet!

Do people that wear these think that there is anything remotely attractive? Do they have no shame? Do they not realize that these are some of the FUGLIEST shoes ever invented (next to Uggs)?!?! Living in the U.S., I realize that people are lazy, don't care, or are only interested in comfort. But seriously... are you insane? Do you not have a mirror?! Don't any of your friends love you enough to tell you how shitty you look?! There is nothing even remotely cute about these terrible things and now they have the audacity to come out with more feminine, slender versions for their spring line?! Yes, that's right, you heard it... a fucking spring line!!!

And last but not least in my rant, I present you with the next worst thing: Jibbitz! What the fuck is a Jibbitz? A Jibbitz is a little charm, accessory, "doo-hickey", if you will... as if anything could make these look better! HA. Of course not, but now, some lady somewhere is making the ugliest shoes around even more annoying. Don't believe me, think I'm making it up?! See for yourself... (And worst of all it's on fucking Oprah, so now the bitch will be rich). Kill me now.

No need to worry: my biological clock is no where near ticking. As a matter of fact, the closer I get to the time that most would start thinking about it, I think I have actually become more scared of the implications of having offspring any time soon. Kids are not conducive to a leisurely, carefree, working all the time, going out more type of lifestyle. That said, they are totally cute and maybe one day I will have one, or adopt one. Too bad these two won't be available... they are so serious!

i first saw chris jordan's work on, my friend, jeremy's computer. the photo was entitled, cell phones #2, atlanta 2005. (see above) it was part of "intolerable beauty: portraits of american mass consumption". so i decided to look into chris jordan... wow. his current exhibit is entitled "running the numbers: an american self-portrait". in chris' words, the new series "...looks at contemporary american culture throught the austere lens of statistics." he does this with "...large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs." did you know that in the year 2005, 2.3 million americans were incarcerated? here is a partial zoom of 2.3 million folded prison uniforms depicting that staggering number....

you know what they say about pictures and a thousand words? i think his equal about a billion.

i am glad he will be in l.a. later this year. go check it out if you can...
